Rocking Around
Grades 7–10 + secondary education
We have a booking form where you can enter your preferences. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible. You’re also welcome to call us at 5170 7071 on weekdays between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
A one-hour (or 75-minute) session costs 725 DKK, and a two-hour session costs 975 DKK. At this time, it’s free to explore the exhibition on your own if it’s not occupied by others—booked school groups have priority. We would really appreciate it if you could let us know in advance when you plan to visit (it’s actually a requirement, if we’re being strict about it).
This is free for public schools in the municipalities of Roskilde, Lejre, and Frederikssund, in accordance with the agreement on free instruction.
If there are no other bookings, it may be possible to get a spot in the School Workshop—contact the booking office to inquire about this option. Please remember to clean up the School Workshop. Otherwise, we’ll come after you with a torch and a fire. You’re not allowed to sit in the museum café when eating packed lunches. In the summer, you can sit on our patio or in the other lovely outdoor areas at Musicon.
Our two-hour workshops— “Creative with Words,” “Me and My Idol,” and “Mix Your Hit” —use the museum’s school workshop as a base for the visit—you can store your belongings there during the workshop.
Visitors are welcome to hang their jackets in the museum’s coat rack and store their bags in the locked lockers.
We do not want to split up regular school classes, so we are happy to accommodate groups of 28 students plus teachers per session. If the class is larger, we recommend booking two sessions to ensure adequate space, visibility, and the students’ learning experience.
You are welcome to visit the school on your own. To ensure there is room for your group, please let us know that you are coming. Please provide your phone number, the name of your school, and the expected number of participants. Please note that booked tours take priority.
We have tailored the lesson plans to suit specific grade levels. We have tested all lesson plans to ensure that the content, exercises, and activities are appropriate for the target audience. We continuously evaluate the lesson plans and make adjustments if we find that they are not suitable for the target audience. Under each course, you’ll see which grade level we recommend it for. You’re always welcome to contact us if you’d like a course for a class that’s older than what we recommend. However, please note that in these cases, some content may seem too easy for certain students.
Rock is for everyone, and we want all children and young people to have a great experience. We have a proven track record of teaching and adapting our programs to suit all children and young people. Our educators have experience with museum education, but they do not have formal training in special education. The museum educator therefore needs ongoing dialogue and alignment of expectations with you and the other adults in the group so that the educator can make minor changes and adjustments to the program during your visit. You are, of course, welcome to request adjustments during the program, take short breaks, step outside with a single student, or shorten the program. Since you know the students best, we recommend that you assist the students and the class if various needs for support and reassurance arise along the way.
For each school program, it will be indicated whether there are pre- and post-activity materials available. These can be downloaded as PDFs and used in the classroom.
Book a ROMU appointment by phone (weekdays 9:00 AM–12:00 PM at 51 70 70 71) or via booking@romu.dk – you will generally be able to reach Lise Wedege there
If you have any questions about the course content, please contact Louise Dahl Christensen, who is in charge of the School Service.
The Rock Museum is part of the ROMU museum organization, which has 10 venues across the municipalities of Roskilde, Lejre, and Frederikssund. We offer school programs locally in Roskilde at the Roskilde Museum, Roskilde Cathedral, Sankt Laurentius, and Lützhøft’s Merchant’s Farm, and we’re also happy to tailor a program to suit your needs if you’d like to visit multiple locations.
