You’ll gain practical experience within a structured framework and tackle challenging tasks in a relaxed and informal environment. Along the way, you’ll build industry knowledge, a network, and museum-specific skills that will strengthen your resume. There’s flexibility in your workweek, and when the program ends, you’ll receive a recommendation and reference that you can use in your future job search.
As an intern, you’ll have your own desk at the Rock Museum, as well as access to a computer and, if needed, a phone. You’ll also have a say in your own tasks and how they’re carried out—at our place, freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. At the same time, you’ll become part of a creative workplace with an open and inclusive atmosphere.
ARE YOU A STUDENT?
We have interns from a wide range of academic programs in the humanities, communication, music, production, and experiential design. We accept interns during both the spring and fall semesters. We expect you to be available for a full semester, working 25–37 hours per week. In addition to your internship at the Rock Museum, you’ll become part of the ROMU intern team, where you can meet and collaborate with interns at ROMU’s other museums. You’ll have a dedicated internship mentor whom you’ll consult with on a daily basis. ROMU’s internship coordinator ensures that your internship is properly structured and that you follow our standard internship program.

Your application should include a personal statement explaining why you are applying for the internship, your resume, and any relevant supporting documents (e.g., course and exam certificates, recommendations, etc.).
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY GRADUATED
If you have completed your education and would like to try your hand at the museum industry, you can participate in a 2–8-week internship at the Rock Museum, working 30 hours per week. The internship is coordinated through your job center. We cannot guarantee you an internship.
IF YOU ARE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
If you’re in 8th or 9th grade, you can get a taste of the museum world through a work-study program. As a work-study student, you’ll typically assist as a museum host or help out with collection management. Apply no later than four weeks before your internship week. We only accept one work-study student at a time, so it’s first come, first served.
