At the Rock Museum, we celebrate not only the sound of music, but also everything that surrounds it: the style, the emotions, the sense of community, and, not least, the images. Photography has always played a crucial role in the story of popular music’s evolution.
We have been fortunate enough to be able to exhibit all the winners, who were selected in November 2025. Come and see them in the museum’s foyer through March 2026.

At the Rock Museum, we celebrate not only the sound of music, but also everything that surrounds it: the style, the emotions, the sense of community, and, not least, the images. Photography has always played a crucial role in the story of popular music’s evolution.
The Rock Museum is an interactive experience center and cultural history museum in Roskilde, where visitors are invited on a sensory journey through the soundtracks of their own lives. Our exhibitions and events delve into music’s role as a force for social change—from youth rebellion and identity to technology and trends. We tell the stories of the artists, fans, scenes, and culture that have shaped generations.

PHOTOS WITH AUDIO

A picture is worth a thousand words—and sometimes more than a thousand notes. Photographs of concerts, backstage moments, iconic outfits, and ecstatic audiences can almost make a noise. This is what’s known as synesthesia: when the eyes see something that the ears can hear. For us, photography is an important documentation of music’s fleeting moments. We see musicians in their element, capture the energy from the edge of the stage, and capture the visual culture that is inextricably linked to popular music.

Music isn’t just something you listen to. It’s also something you see. From David Bowie’s glam rock look to hip-hop streetwear, musicians have always been style icons and trendsetters. And it is through photography that we truly experience this aesthetic and attitude. That is why it is a natural mission for the Rock Museum to collect, preserve, and share the most significant music photographs.
