LP Cover Art – The Sound of South Funen

At the Rock Museum, we don’t just tell the story of the music, but also of the images that have helped shape it. The LP cover is an important part of rock’s visual culture and offers a unique insight into the artists, scenes, and places that have left their mark on the music.

The exhibition has been kindly loaned by the Svendborg Rock Archive, Henning H. Harder, and Rune Myhre.

Rock history isn’t found only in the audio tracks, but also on the LP cover. This is where music meets visual expression, and where artists convey identity, attitude, and a sense of belonging. The covers tell a story not only about the records they encase, but also about the communities, people, and places that have helped shape the music. That is why they are valuable sources for understanding how the Danish music scene has been created—both on and off the big stages.

THE SOUND OF SOUTH FUNEN – ON VINYL

For several decades, South Funen and the area around Svendborg have been home to a thriving musical scene that has contributed to Denmark’s musical heritage. Musicians from all over the country have been drawn to the tranquility and beautiful landscapes. They have settled down and become part of the local music culture, but they have also brought the cultural trends of larger cities to South Funen. Svendborg became a hub for mutual cultural exchange, where visiting and local musicians have inspired and enriched one another. As a result, many local musicians have also been able to travel with the sound of South Funen in their musical backpack.

This exhibition features a selection of LP covers from South Funen. For many of the featured artists, their connection to South Funen and Svendborg has had a direct influence on the visual style of the covers.

The exhibition is on display in the Rock Museum’s café. It has been kindly loaned by the Svendborg Rock Archive, Henning H. Harder, and Rune Myhre. Thank you very much.
